Shopify Flow upgrades GraphQL Admin API version to 2025-01

Shopify has officially upgraded Flow to use version 2025‑01 of the GraphQL Admin API, bringing powerful new capabilities and improved API support to automations built with Flow.

What’s New in GraphQL Admin API 2025‑01

According to Shopify’s developer changelog, GraphQL 2025‑01 includes the following updates Shopify.dev:

  • Automatic discounts: minimumRequirement is now nullable - allowing discounts without threshold conditions.
  • Bulk operation errors: BulkOperationUserError now carries a code field.
  • Fulfillment enhancements:
    • Multiple holds can now be placed on a single fulfillment order.
    • The heldByApp field replaces the deprecated heldBy.
    • Access via node/nodes queries now requires appropriate scopes (read_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders, read_assigned_fulfillment_orders, etc.).
  • Fulfillment service defaults: permitsSkuSharing defaults to true, enabling shared inventory across multiple locations.
  • Checkout branding fields: New merchandiseThumbnail.fit and badge.background for styling UI.
  • Localized fields: Validation using the new localizedFields interface in checkout and functions.
  • Metafield updates:
    • admin field on access input is now optional.
    • Removal of PrivateMetafield; developers should use app-data instead.
    • Introduction and removal of several metafield and metaobject permissions and enums.

This is a great update – you can use updated API to send transactional emails via FlowMail
